Travelling the World After Uni in a Motorhome

Celebrate Your Graduation

For many graduation isn’t just about getting a degree, it is a celebration of the hard slog that the last 17ish years have been in education. Albeit the last 6 were probably harder than the first 6 but either way it is a celebration.

Then it hits that you have to get a job. So much for celebrating!

However, this might not be your only option, why don’t you considering travelling the world before you enter “the real world” this way you can experience something that many don’t get to, continue to party and celebrate the end of education as you know it and put off working for another year!

The Realities

Now you are tempted you are probably wondering where to start. Well it just so happens that Comfort Insurance have provided us with a guide to getting started and travelling the world in a campervan!

There is no better country for going on a trip of a lifetime in a campervan than the USA. It will be one the most motorhome friendly places that you visit and not just because of the wide roads!

Route 66 and Other Landmarks

Whilst you are there you need to travel along Route 66 and there really is no excuse not to. For many it is the only reason that they travel to America in a campervan! The great thing about America is that you can camp wild, meaning that if you are too tired and haven’t made it to a campsite, providing it isn’t private land, you can pull over and stay the night. Make sure that you are confident though that you are legally allowed to stay in the location.

New Zealand and WIld Camping

Next up is New Zealand which has to be one of the prettiest countries in the world. Wherever you go the landscape will constantly be changing from beaches to peaks to glaciers. It is very dramatic which makes it so interesting to look at and therefore a great place to travel in a campervan.

A great advantage is that if you are driving down a coastal road and decide that you like the view so much, you can just stop and stay as long as you like. The laws here state that you are free to camp as long as you are 15km from the nearest town, you must also not be on a public highway but other than this you are free to do as you wish.

If you are sold on travelling to New Zealand then the best time to do is June to August, the seas are full of whales and you will have missed peak season which is between January and March. If you are looking for a mountain drive then the best place to head to is the Coromandel Peninsula.

Australia

Whilst we are on this side of the world, you should definitely consider Australia. Everything about it is vast so having a portable bedroom, bathroom and kitchen as well as a mode of transport will make your trip here much easier.

If you want to be truly self-sufficient then travelling through the outback is perfect for you; you will be able to drive for a couple of days at a time without seeing another person.

If you would like something a little less extreme then travel around the coast where there is a mix of rainforest, reefs and fantastic beaches.

If you happen to come across a road train then be wary when trying to overtake it, some of them can be 35 metres long so it will take some time. They can also kick up quite a bit of dust so ensure that you have left plenty of room so you don’t jeopardise your vision.

Now whilst you are here and travelling in a campervan it is an absolute must that you travel the Great Ocean Road. It goes from Adelaide to Melbourne and is one of the best drives in the world.
