Get Some Work Experience

Getting some work experience at Uni whether it be paid or voluntary, will pay big time when it comes to going out in the real world!

Here are just a few benefits of a part-time job at Uni:

  • Meet new people that you wouldn't have not met before, therefore network more, increase your friendship circle.
  • Boost you income by £300 to £800 a month (part time). You'll be able to save some of this money for going traveling or a deposit on a house when you get out of Uni.
  • Play it right and will give you a guaranteed job over summer, meaning that you don't have to go back and live at home if you don't want to.
  • It looks FANTASTIC on your CV when you finish Uni and the company may even have graduate schemes.

Motivated now?

FACT: Most companies don't advertise their vacancies. You need to approach them!

So what is on offer for me?

What next?

Make sure your CV is ready to go. Write a professional covering letter explaining you would love to work in this particular establishment and that you can start at ANY time and leave some contact details.

If you are looking for somewhere a bit classier than washing up glasses and wiping up people's piss then read the next bit carefully.

First thing you need to do is: Get your CV sorted!

Write down all your skills and previous experience. What jobs have you had before? What have you been strong at? What can you add to a team? Do you work well in a team? Are you a good salesperson? Are you really good at customer service?

If you can prove that you are good at customer service then you are half way to getting a new job. If you have never worked before then get your blagging cap on.

Next, get a decent cover letter to go with your CV. Below is an example.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have just arrived in the ******* area and I am about to embark on a three year course studying Business at ******* University.

I am eager to show off my skills and add a great deal of positive things to your business. Your company really appeals to me because of its renowned customer service. You will see on my CV that I have fantastic customer service skills.

I am able to commit to 15 to 20 hours per week and can fit this around my studies, including weekends.

I know that I can impress you with my attitude and business knowledge when we meet.

I am available for interview at anytime.

Yours truly,

Mr. Smith
