- Use body language to show interest and eagerness.
- Make sure you know what you have written on your CV! This is pretty important. Try not to fill it will too many lies and if they are lies you better cover them up pretty well!
- Prepare for surprises. You may be asked to do role play, ask tricky questions that you have not prepared for etc.
- Describe your weakness as strengths. This is tricky. It is almost inevitable that you will be asked what you think your weaknesses are. You want to leave a positive impression in the mind of the interviewer. You want to show that you are in the process of overcoming a weakness or pick a weakness that is a strength. One of our favourites is "I have extremely high standards for myself and am sometimes impatient of others whom I work with who do not have similar standards." Killer statement!
- Ask about the next step in the interview process. Show a firm interest in the job.
- Be clear about your future. Another common question is "Where do you want to be five/ten years from today?" The key to your answer is to be specific enough whilst allowing yourself the flexibility which suggest that you understand the complexities of the business you're applying for. Technology and business is moving at a face pace nowadays and so you might say, "I plan to become qualified in every phase of this industry."
- Ask questions, interview the interviewer and make it a two way conversation. In your mind pretend that you are too good for the job and make them convince you to work for them.
- Write back thanking your interviewer. This could clinch you the job. Send an email one or two days after the interview saying "Thank you for taking the time to interview me. I felt the interview went well and I hope I showed how I can add outstanding customer service to your company." Or something similar.

Telephone Job Interview Tips
Arrrrrrrghhhh a telephone interview! Don't panic, be yourself, take a deep breath and just imagine yourself passing with flying colours.
Stick to these points and you won't go far wrong...
- Prepare as you would prepare for a normal interview. (Apart from wearing a suit). A telephone job interview needs just the same attention. Research the company and the job role. You can do without the suit and perfume though.
- Be articulate. Don't keep pausing and use the word 'like' every five seconds. "Yeah I want the job like, because like it would be great for me like." No!!!!
- Keep a pen and paper in front of you to write down the interviewers name and any important points.
- Don't interrupt the interviewer.
- Keep your answer brief and to the point. Enough said.
- Control the speed of your speech. Don't talk too quickly or too slowly.
- Concentrate on the questions. You don't want to be doing something at the same time. Preferably stand up and go some place quiet or even in the fresh air. It make you think more clearly and feel better.
- Keep a copy of your CV in front of you. You may be asked questions on it!
- If you get stuck then say, "That's a good question. I'm going to take a moment so I can provide you with an accurate answer."
- Be yourself.
- Don't use slang words. Make sure you speak clearly, this is very important on a telephone interview.
- Thank the interviewer at the end of the telephone interview.
- Follow up with your thank you email.
