Budget your money and it'll
go 187% further

You need to plan for each term that you're on so that you can come up with a weekly budget.

A term is the amount of time till your next loan, this is usually around 11 weeks but please check because it can vary.

Copy and Paste this into a word document and use it to keep everything on track.

Incoming cash for the term:

Loan =
Grant =
Parental Donations =
Part-time job =
Anything else (selling something, etc) =
Total =

Outgoing cash for the term:

Rent =
Electric & Gas Bill =
Phone Bill =
Car tax & insurance (if applicable) =
Petrol or public transport costs =
Any other monthly bills or subscriptions you have =

Total =

Get the two totals and take the outgoing away from the incoming. You'll then have the magic total.

Say this total is an amazing £1100.

You then divide the £1100 by the 11 weeks you have left for the term = £100 per week.

This is the £100 you spend (or save) on alcohol, food, cinema, clothes etc.

£100 is large amount for a student and your weekly budget is likely to be around £60 or £70, especially if you don't have a part-time job.

Remember, you may also have an overdraft facility available to you but it doesn't mean you HAVE to use it.

We don't recommend getting a part-time job in the first months of university as you want to go and enjoy yourself at this time. After that, you want to definitely think about it as it will help your bank account bulge and it will help your employability after uni.
