Darling says we are all ‘pissed off with the Labour party’!

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I think it’s great when the chancellor says things like ‘pissed off’, it keeps things in simple terms. People in the government and even in business tend to over complicate things by using unnecessary jargon.

I think he’s right though. People are getting pissed off with the Labour party. This is due to the fact they don’t seem to be doing anything whatsoever to help the general public through this so called ‘credit crunch’ and ever rising food, oil and energy prices.

I personally believe that the economy won’t start stablising itself until we are all saving a bit more money in our savings accounts, especially the younger generations. Until house prices come down to an average of 4 or 5 times the average income (around £140,000) and there is a good amount of 20 to 30 year olds with a £15,000 deposit then banks won’t start lending consistently again. This could take 5 years or even more.

The government is doing relatively NOTHING to help.

- Why not cut top up fees for students?

- Why not give a tax break on fuel?

- Why not investigate fully why energy companies are putting up their prices so much and having million pound parties to celebrate their record profits?

Why not do something? People need a break.

Students…fear not. We can get through this and come out of university in a good state of affairs. With a little savvy and saving then everything will be okay. Don’t stress : )

Spread the peace

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Hello peeps,

This blog post isn’t strictly student related but it does relate to you as a person and an individual. If you read my last blog post you’ll read my little ditty about how important it is to create a vision of your life and then live it.

Well, I found a guy who has truly done that.

His name is Jeremy Gilley and he is the founder of the first ever Peace Day which consists of the an annual day of cease fire and no-violence. During this day aid agencies going into war zones and offer relief in the form of medicine and food for the ill and hungry.

Jeremy saw his vision of this peace day and summoned everything in his power to make it happen. Using his filmmaker skills and passionate personality he managed to involve the likes of Jude Law and Angelina Jolie in his campaign.

The 21st of September also signifies a day for those not in a war zone to have a day of non-violence. No more shouting at friends, no more stabbing, no more violence within the home. It is a day of true peace, to value what it is to be human.

The Olympics & The War of Attrition

Friday, August 8th, 2008

The Olympics is underway and what an opening ceremony it was. The Chinese have truly embraced what the Olympics means to the world and they also portrayed their 5000 years of history in a very moving way.

For me, the Olympics encompass what it means to be at the pinnacle of what it is to be human - obviously on a mostly physical level but sometimes we forget the momentous mental journey these top athletes go on.

To make to the top in anything whether it be sport, business or anything else you might choose to do - you HAVE to see your goal in your mind before you can achieve it. If you can see yourself already in possession of the things you want to achieve, the people you want to surround yourself around and the life you want to leave your subconscious will go out and attract these things to you.

For example, I personally want this site to be the most helpful, useful and most used UK student website on the Internet. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s moving in that direction - with over 1000 students signed up on the email within 3 months, it’s not too bad going - we have a long way to go though. We have a lot more to give to students and we’ll do everything we can for you guys.

But, the point of this blog isn’t about me - it’s about YOU. Today and the next few days - take time to think what you really want in life, what do you REALLY WANT TO ACHIEVE? Who do you want to live your life with?

These questions we rarely get time to think about in our busy lives but start to think about it next time you see an athlete win a gold medal at the Olympics - think about what kind of approach they have to life. See if it changes yours. It may not, but give it a go.

I’ll be back soon.

One love.

Steve.
