Recession? I think so.

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

The economy is looking like it’s going to collapse. The government are panicking by putting £50million of our own money into the banking system in an attempt to get a few more people on the housing market and stop the inevitable collapse of house prices.

The prices will crash and this is good for current students as in 4 or 5 years time housing SHOULD be more affordable. A well known economist predicted there would be a housing price crash starting in 2008. He says there is an 18 year cycle. 14 years of stable or growing prices followed by around 4 years of falling prices.

So how will the recession affect students?

Money will be tighter with costs of everyday goods going up, but if you can pick up a part-time job and save a bit of cash whilst you’re at University you’ll be in a great position when you finish.

You’ll need to start being a bit tighter with your cash and not piss it all away drinking to 4am every morning. Be a wealthy student, not a skint student!

I’ll be blogging more soon on this subject, but busy writing this book at the moment!

Competition and My thoughts on the Government

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I have a nice title for the book that has come in the competition ‘The Wealthy Student Handbook’ - providing a wealth of knowledge for the student community.

It’s going to be tough to be it - but you can try here.

With this blog I am going to get into some meatier subject matter to get my real views on things out there.

This week: Where does all the money really go?

I am talking about taxes and what the general public pays. Of course we pay taxes to maintain the services - police, army, hospitals and those things, but is every single pound and penny going to good places?

I personally don’t think it is.

There is so much waste of money in our society and our government has to take the blame here. I know if every penny was spent properly students wouldn’t have top up fees and being slammed with 4.8% interest.

We need to fight the student corner but we also need to fight our own corner as a British citizens. Where is every single pound of our money going? All we seem to have found out lately is that MP’s can now claim thousands on a new kitchen for their second home.

In Scotland students don’t have the same fees as us. Why not here?

We need answers and in our quest to help students, we’ll also be trying to get these answers.

Are you with us?

Okay you guys win, we’ll put the prize money up.

8 entries so far which is good but not quite good enough!

That means you have forced me to bump it up to £100. No more until we get loads more entries!

That’s got to be four nights out the town at least!

There is also a second prize of a ipod shuffle.

Again, we need to have at least 50 entries by the end of April or we’ll have to roll over till May.

So you get your competition entries in.

This is just a short blog post but in the next post which will be in a couple of days about a so called ‘expert’ who wanted me to pull wealthystudent.co.uk down. Hmm…who could it be? Who would do such a petty thing?

Over a years work has gone into this site and it’s here to raise awareness and fight student debt. No one will take it down.

You’ll find out who it was pretty soon.

For now take it easy guys. Look after yourselves this weekend! My arm is finally out of my cast but I can’t move the damn thing. One day I’ll be a normal human being again!
