Blyk, Student Research & a broken arm.

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Hey Studs (short for students),

I hope your arm isn’t as broke as mine is right now.

Please don’t try drinking a bottle of wine in 10 minutes on an empty stomach and then diving like superman into a road on the back streets of Bournemouth.

The docs had to re-align my arm with my wrist. Bad times.

Anyway, back to work…

The sites are almost done now. Just a couple of changes to the menus on the sites, the forum and the blog.

We have also done a lot of surveys and we found that you guys don’t want a weekly email. We are still keeping the email sign up but only to send you interesting things, special deals and free stuff. We won’t send more than 2 emails a month and it’s VERY easy to opt out of the email and stop it coming to your inbox.

The highlight of the free stuff at the moment is the Blyk free SIM card you get when you text ‘STUDENT’ to 82595. It comes with 217 free texts and 43 free minutes. Useful as a spare SIM at the end of the month when you are running low on credit.

Keep checking back for more deals and please tell us what you want from us or what you think by either:

- leaving a msg after this blog post

- going to the forums

- emailing us on admin@wealthystudent.co.uk

Oh, some other cool news…we have some videos coming soon (in a few weeks).

Take care,

Steve Burf x

It’s time for a change

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Hey lovers, we have officially launched now and we would love to welcome you to WealthyStudent.co.uk.

There is still to be a few changes to be made on the site. We’ll be making the forum a little more appealing so people can start posting in it and there is also going to be more video and interactive content.

Some people are asking us, “What is WealthyStudent all about? What does it all mean?”

Well, our mission statement is to to help dramatically cut student debt and also give students the necessary tools for making a success of themselves after University.

We have done this by creating four separate sites…

The main site - giving students the information to get jobs whilst at University, make more money and be ready for the outside world

The Savings Site - Giving up to the minute advice on savings to made online and reviewing the products students tend to spend their money on. With Student Free Stuff.

The Phone Site - As students we tend to spend a fair portion of our money on phones and phone bills. Here you will find the ways to compare over 50,000 mobile phone deals, student offers and where to trade in your old mobile.

The Banking Site - We let you know which is the best student account to open and why is it a good idea to open a savings account whilst at University.

We plan on adding other sites and once we get enough people in the Wealthy Student family we’ll do big competitions with big cash prizes for a small entry fee (like £1.50) in order for the winning students to graduate debt free - we’ll only do this if all you students want to!

As a student group we also want to challenge the government on top up fees, the ridiculous 4.8% we are all being charged on our ever increasing student debts. This adds to another £720 per year to our debts.
I don’t think it’s fair the way that young people have to start in massive debt in this expensive Britain.

I don’t agree with so called ‘experts’ who say that this is ‘cheap debt’ and it’s better than getting a bank loan. Why are we even charged interest at all when in Scotland they don’t have to pay any fees?

I think these ‘experts’ are talking out their arse and probably have too much money to give sympathy to those starting out in life with over £15,000 debt. Why should debt be so commonplace in our society? Why should we be charged so much for wanting to educate ourselves and add more to our economy.

Tell me why Gordon Brown.

Anyway, sorry for my rant.

We have come to change that and I hope you’ll join us.
